Fork Positioners Overview

Hook-To-Pin Sideshifting Fork Positioners

Hook to pin type fork positioners and sideshifters are used where the heel of the fork could bind or hang up during extraction from under loads, such as lumber loading or trailer loading.

Rotating Fork Positioner

This attachment is built using our FORK-CO Pallet Fork Clamp as a base.  The differences between clamps and positioners are that positioners use smaller bore cylinders than clamps to reduce the stresses on the arms,  and positioners have a lesser opening range.  Fork positioners are not intended to squeeze and clamp the load.  Pallet fork clamps are for that purpose.

FORK POSITIONERS:

Non-sideshifting fork positioner:     Our fork positioners are designed so no welding is needed to install the unit.  Some makers require the customer to weld an anchor to the rear face of the fork to connect the cylinders that move the forks.  Fork-Co uses a fork carrier that is retained in place by the fork and by the two carriage bars. No welding is needed.

The advantage in this design is that standard forks are used, not modified forks.  So, future replacement is much simpler.

This is a single hydraulic function unit.

What we need to know: (any fork positioner)

Forklift make, model and capacity.

Load description, materials, weight.

Capacity required for the positioner.

The type and width of the base carriage (truck’s carriage. Tells us where the upper hooks must be spaced)

Desired  fork opening range

Fork dimensions:  L X W X T  (NOTE: forks longer than 72” in class III and larger require larger cylinders.)

Is an LBR required? If so, what height (measured from top of fork blade).

Sideshifting Fork Positioners:   Apply all the same questions re: sideshifters and fork positioners when working with sideshifting fork positioners. This attachment is simply the combination of those two other attachments.

This is a two hydraulic function attachment.

Fork Positioning Kits:

These are kits designed to add fork positioning to a pin type carriage.  The kit includes cylinders, cylinder anchors for the carriage and fork carriers.  Not all forklifts can be readily converted to positioners. We must have carriage dimensions in detail to determine if it is possible.
